A WORD OF WARNING
"Percents-off" sales can easily mislead, either innocently or with malicious intent. An innocent example is with artists' brushes. At most craft stores brushes are sold on pre-packaged hang tags and carry prices as much as 75-cents higher than the uncarded brushes preferred by most genuine art supply stores. Their 40% off may actually cost more than the same brush sold uncarded at 20% off.
On the more larcenous side, one local retailer consistently marks most products much higher than the retails suggested by the manufacturer, then offers a sizable "discount." We don't quarrel with their right to charge whatever they want, but the implication that the customer is getting a major saving is clearly designed to gull the unwary. At Red Swan we (and most other local retailers) are scrupulous in using the genuine prices when percents-off discounts are offered.
Unfortunately, some prefer to mislead.
